Life is full of lessons... some we learn at school, some from books and many more through experience.
Some things can be taught, but true understanding often requires the application of knowledge.
For much in life is a matter of perspective. It is quite the discovery, the realisation that sometimes the smallest piece
of information can radically alter a persons perception, forever changing an attitude, opinion or approach.
"Training programs are not answering how to execute a plan, including selecting the right people, following
up and troubleshooting when progress falters" - Prof F. Hilmer.
The world today is changing rapidly with the internet, computers and other technologies bringing opportunities
for business and personal development alike. But with this change comes uncertainty, and it is amazing the
number of people who haven't learnt to deal with this uncertainty. Those who insist on micro planning and
scheduling things they know are going to change faster than their plans can be updated.
So how do we plan for and deal with uncertainty? By working with what we do know and following a few simple techniques
that form a framework for consistent, repeatable and importantly successful delivery. I have spent many years researching
and developing flexible planning techniques based on Earned Value Management (EVM). Importantly these techniques
are not theoretical, they are used daily for delivering on commercial projects.
Commercial projects by my definition pass these two tests:
The knowledge imparted on this web site is intended is to provide guidance for defining, planning, and managing software projects. While the processes and techniques described are geared toward software intensive projects, they should be generally applicable to other disciplines.
